Deep Red John Wayne – In which I make a birthday card for my husband and make hundreds of people sad

So, my husband’s birthday is this week, and I got busy and made him a card. I don’t always manage to make cards for my family, but I do try. I had bought a stamp by Deep Red Stamps last year for the very purpose of making my husband a card. And then Deep Red retired this stamp, which will make you very sad. They do have LOTS of other very desirable rubber, though, so I’m happy to introduce you to this company if you’ve never heard of them before.

I actually had been shopping on Scrapbook.com for some Steampunk-style stamps and found Deep Red that way because they have some nice Steampunk images. I started looking at everything up there and found the John Wayne stamp and just had to have it. Lookie:

MOJUS! (GOJUS in a manly way!) (YILM!) My husband is a big John Wayne fan, and I knew I would be able to make the perfect card for him with this. The patterned paper is a long-retired piece from the assortment from SU! called Wanted.

I used the Sun Ray stencil from My Favorite Things behind the Duke, who is stamped in Early Espresso, and stenciled with a mix of So Saffron and Really Rust. You can see some of my hoarded Hodgepodge Hardware in the copper picture turn there.

Of course, I couldn’t find a good greeting to go with the Duke, so I made my own. And if you have this stamp and want this greeting, I am happy to provide it as well as as the insert below:

I actually looked through John Wayne’s quotes to find something he actually said (You’re a persistent cuss, pilgrim.)

Here is the greeting (which prints in brown) and also the insert (black):

Well, since most of what I used here is retired, instead of my usual InLinkz list, I am going to put something here allowing you to shop Deep Red stamps at Scrapbook.com.

And if you’re interested in the stencil, you can certainly pick it up here:
