Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #49 – Hero Arts April Kit

Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #49 – Hero Arts April Kit

I'm continuing to guest design this month for the Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge Blog!

This week's challenge is a flower challenge!

SIP49

It's been a while since I did a floral card, so it was just a matter of figuring out what floral sets I had that I hadn't used yet. I had bought the Hero Arts April kit and hadn't even touched it, so that's what I grabbed. Lookie:

GOJUS!!! (YILM!)

This was a really great kit (I say was, because it isn't available any more…which I probably why I won't be buying another kit unless I absolutely can't resist it…it kills me to show you something that you can't get anymore, and HA doesn't carry the stamps over into their store after the kit is no longer available like other companies do). There are matching dies for the stamps that allow you to cut the main flower out in two ways, either a pop-up image that cuts the whole flower and parts of the inner petals individually, or you can cut out multiple images in layers and then stack them. That is what I chose to do.

I first stamped four flowers using Versafine Onyx Black on the watercolor paper that comes with the kit and painted them using the Daniel Smith watercolor dots that also came in the kit. I kept the painting loose because that's what watercolor is all about. I well remember in my first watercolor class in college very carefully shading the rubber cement can that I chose to draw, and the professor came by, grabbed my brush and just slapped some paint down and it came ALIVE. I also stamped another of the watercolor papers with the stem, leaves, and buds and painted those. I like to use the color on the opposite side of the color wheel to shade, so I added a big of green to the rose and also a bit of purple.

I die cut all the flowers pieces using the included dies and stacked them up. I washed some light blue in behind the flowers.

I cut out the leaf and bud piece using my Tim Holtz stitched rectangle dies. I added the greeting to the lower right corner with Versafine Onyx Black.

I added three of the little green pearls that come in the kit in the upper right corner.

I layered this piece over some Lawn Fawn patterned paper on top of a Schoolhouse Red card stock from Simon Says Stamp.

Below is my list of products that I used (sadly minus the stamps and matching dies) or those similar to what I used, and I have used affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Ribbon Resource, Gina K, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links costs you nothing and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you. Stampin' Up! product links lead to their webstore, so please be sure to indicate your preference in demonstrator if it doesn't come up automatically!

Enjoy! Ta!
