Paper Crafts Crew 257 – My Favorite Things Our Story – MFTCC75
Welcome back to the Paper Crafts Crew Challenge! This week we have a theme challenge:
I don’t have kids in school anymore! Can you believe that! The boy with the wayward finger graduated! So I don’t have a lot in the way of school-related stamps, but I did have some rather bookish stamps from My Favorite Things. Since I was using their stamps, I decided to play along with the current MFT color challenge:
STINKIN’ CUTE! I colored my cute little reader with Copic markers.
The lighting on this was challenging. The light was coming from above, but the book pages would reflect that light up into the little reader’s face. There also had to be a shadow cast from above, not the way I usually work. Her hair had to cast a shadow, but there had to be bright highlights where the light hit her hair. I also played one of my favorite tricks of creating stripes in the upholstery with my colorless blending pen. I masked off the little reader with post it notes after I colored her in, and I sponged some Memento Paris Dusk to create the shadow beyond the light since I don’t have MFT Blueberry ink.
After I got her all colored, die cut, and mounted over the Subtle Plaids paper, also from MFT, I had to figure out where to put my sentiment. Most of the ones that came with the stamp set were too long or too big. I finally decided to play another one of my favorite tricks, which is double cutting with dies to make a smaller piece, along with another trick of stamping just part of a sentiment. I stamped the first part of the sentiment on Spearmint and the word Bookworm on Coral Crush. I then used the same die, cut it the regular size once, then moved the piece I cut so that the stitched end cut again at the length I wanted (which I marked with a pencil). I then layered them up on the left side.
I added a couple of little enamel hearts from Stampin’ Up! in the upper right hand corner.
This would be a great card to give to a teacher, student, or just your favorite reader, with a gift card to a bookstore tucked inside!

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Gina K, Sizzix, and Blick Art Supplies. Stampin’ Up! links go to my BFF Wendy Weixler’s store, who does not pay me except in eternal friendship, but you can change to your favorite demonstrator if you prefer. Buying through these links costs you nothing extra and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you.
