Paper Crafts Crew 261 – Simon Says Stamp Ornate Leaves and Ornate Background
Welcome back to the Paper Crafts Crew Challenge! This week we have a color challenge:
Truthfully, I thought this was pretty ugly until I started working with it. I’m not a big fan of rust colors or oranges, and Tranquil Tide to me is a kind of muddy color. I decided to grab a new Stamptember set from Simon Says Stamp, Ornate Leaves, and it seemed to me that Joseph’s Coat would be a great technique with this set as well as to use the more leaf-like colors on the first layer, Lemon Lime and Cajun Craze, and then I could experiment with the color I applied over the embossing to see what I liked best.
GOJUS! I actually didn’t experiment with the color I applied on top of the base piece because I *LOVED* Tranquil Tide on top of the other two colors!
After I sponged the color over the piece of white I had, I carefully dusted it down with my embossing powder bag and then stamped using the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. With the fine detail it’s very important to get a clear image. Then I embossed it with clear EP and applied Tranquil Tide with a sponge over the top.
I flicked some water on the piece and blotted it off. I also used the Tim Holtz color spritzer to get a bit of fine spray on top of the piece to help break up the background. Originally, I did a piece that was the size of the entire card front, but I do that ALL THE TIME, and I wanted to shake things up a bit. So I made another, more narrow piece then cut the edge with one of the Drifting Stitches Borders dies. I also added some Tonic Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops strategically to add some gloss and interest.
I was debating about using the coordinating Simon Says Stamp Stamptember Ornate Background, but it seemed to me that it would like great just stamped on Tranquil Tide card stock with Tranquil Tide ink and then would complement the beautiful leaf piece without drawing attention away from it. I also used the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform for this because the long piece of card stock for the base would not get bent by trying to stamp in as it would if I used my MISTI. I also stamped the greeting on a narrow piece of Lemon Lime Twist card stock, heat embossed with clear, and cut the edges with one of the My Favorite Things Basic Stitched Borders dies. I mounted this with foam tape on the card from and added three gold Metallic Enamel Shapes from Stampin’ Up!
This turned out so beautiful, and I now like this color combination. It’s important to try new things, even if sometimes you think you won’t like it!
