Penny Black Under the Trees

Penny Black Under the Trees

Happy World Card Making Day Eve! It’s the Friday before WCMD, and I’m going to share a card I made yesterday using Penny Black Under the Trees plus information about a great sale for World Card Making Day. Penny Black Under the Trees is a stamp I bought from last year’s release, but I have some new watercolor pencils from Tonic Studios/Nuvo, and this seemed to be the perfect stamp to try them out. I also wanted to enter the Penny Black Creative Christmas Challenge.

Penny Black Under the Trees

GOJUS! I felt this was perfect for watercolor pencils because of all the tight and tiny areas. Watercolor pencils CAN give you more control, but on the other hand, you can also screw up massively because you can put more color down than you realize, and you won’t see it until you get it wet.

While I colored directly on the paper in some areas, you can get more control by scribbling on a scrap of watercolor paper, wetting it, then using your brush to transfer the color to your image. You’ll note I added some green to the branches. That’s because there is almost ALWAYS some green to the bark of small twigs, and it looks more realistic if you add that in.

I stamped the greeting from Penny Black Christmas Sentiments on some Bazzill Juicy Pear card stock, and I used the new Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Labels die set to die cut the perfect narrow banner. I love this set of dies, because I can make my banners whatever length of width I want. I also added some Wink of Stella clear to give a lot of sparkle to the card.

Now that it’s finished, I wonder why it took me so long to use Penny Black Under the Trees! It was fun to paint, and makes a beautiful card.
