Deep Red Stamps – Circles Background – Emboss Resist and Multilayer Watercoloring with Distress Inks

Deep Red Stamps – Circles Background – Emboss Resist and Multilayer Watercoloring with Distress Inks

I saw this awesome video by Kristina Werner and fell in love with this technique. It reminded me a lot of Smashing Acetate, a technique I learned when I had just hatched out of the SU! egg, but better.

Naturally, I wanted the stamp she used, but it hasn't worked out yet. I've thrown it into my cart at Simon Says Stamp on more than one occasion, but by the time I got around to checking out, it was always sold out.

While I was waiting for it to come back in stock, I poked around in a few places and found the Circles Background from Deep Red Rubber that I was sure would work equally well. And I was right:

GOJUS! I kept the colors the same as Kristina's for this card since I really like the way they work together, but let's face it, I haven't found one Distress color that doesn't work well with another, amirite?

It's such fun to add color after you get the basic color wash on the paper.

I blotted off any color that was too strong to keep the tonal balance.

I didn't have a circular word die to do the vellum window trick that Kristina did, so I selected this die from MFT instead, die cutting it three times from black card stock and then layering it up together.

A little baker's twine and a couple of Doodlebug sprinkles are all I needed to finish this off.

I can't wait to try this again with other colors!

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Ribbon Resource, Gina K, Sissix, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links costs you nothing extra and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you.

Enjoy! Ta!
