Emboss/Deboss Like a Boss Video – Simon Says Stamp Kind Flowers

I really loved the November kit from Simon Says Stamp, but I have an eensy little problem. By the time I get my kit, a lot of the ideas I might have used have been used by the people who get it first. Let’s be honest, my goal is to BE one of those people who get the kit first. And I feel like, in order to do that, I have to come up with something nice and fresh and something someone else hasn’t done already.

So the idea sheet that comes with the kit is closely examined by me in order to figure out what NOT to do. I saw that heat embossing and closely cutting out the big stamp with the word KIND with the flowers around it has already been done, so I decide not to do it. What else could I do?

Looking at the stamp with it’s strong linear elements, I realized that hand embossing/debossing would work beautifully with this. After I made my card, I realized that it would make a great video, so I have one showing this technique and how I finished the card at the end of this post. Lookie:

GOJUS! It’s really hard to photograph, but the letters, leaves, and flowers are raised using a very easy technique.

You can see it in this picture though! I chose my colors from the patterned paper that came in the kit, thinking I would match it up, but then I didn’t use that paper! I still love the colors though! I stamped the image with My Favorite Things Hot Fudge Hybrid ink, which is Copic friendly, and I colored the image with Copics and added details with a Copic Gold Spica pen, Wink of Stella clear, plus a white gel pen.

Originally, I added the dotty stripes to the letters because I mistakenly put a dot on the K with my Spica pen, and so I decided to turn it into a design element. I liked it so much I ended up doing it again for the card I made for the video.

I heat embossed the greeting tag line on some of the dark chocolate card stock from the kit.

I tried putting this on top of some of the patterned paper from the kit and also a piece of card stock I had embossed with an embossing folder, but nothing looked better than this cool embossed bronze paper that came with the kit and which is not sold anywhere that I can find. The kit is sold out too. Rats!

It’s really just so elegant, and the hand embossing/debossing is just the perfect touch.

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Gina K, Sizzix, and Blick Art Supplies. Stampin’ Up! links lead to my BFF Wendy Weixler’s store, whose friendship is something I highly value, and I’m always happy to throw business her way. She does not reimburse me for doing so. If you have your own demo, you can of course change over to them. Buying through these links costs you nothing extra and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors (not to mention, keeps me from sacrificing so much of my children’s inheritance!), and I thank you.
