Simon Says Stamp Circle Sayings with Paper Smooches Bird Houses and Distress Oxide Inks

I have had so much fun playing with the new Distress Oxide inks lately and have made so many background pieces, that I needed to start using them. I first grabbed the Paper Smooches Bird Houses because I've been dying to use them, having bought them after seeing what Jennifer McGuire had done with them. Lookie:

GOJUS!!! (If you want to pin, BTW, I have a multi-image banner at the end of the post, perfect for pinning!) With this background, I started out by created a blended background and then spritzing with water. After that, I added more color from the craft sheet and dotted with water dropped from my brush and worked it until I got something I liked.

For the birdhouses, I cut multiple copies of the houses (3) and the roofs (2) from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White and stacked them up, gluing them with the 2-Way Glue Pen from Stampin' Up!. I cut a channel from the bottom to the door hole on the the bottom layer of the house for the pole to go into. The birds themselves I cut from the same piece I had created for my last Distress Oxide card for the petals. After I assembled my bird houses, I decided that adding a circle of Tropical Teal card stock from MFT looked better than leaving them empty.

When I had finished the bird houses and laid them over the background, there wasn't a focal point evident. I wasn't sure want I should do for a greeting, wanting as much of the background to show as possible. With Jennifer's original bird house cards, she had just used a section of a technique background with the rest of the card being white, but I didn't want to make any of this gorgeousness go away. So what should I do? I finally decided on the Circle Sayings set from Simon Says Stamp, thinking I could use a large circle for the main focal point and overlap some circles to make it even more interesting. I stamped each of the circles with a different color of My Favorite Things ink. The Distress Oxide background has a smooth chalky finish that accepts regular ink quite nicely.

I decided to add an additional small greeting to the upper left hand corner, embossed with white EP on Tropical Teal card stock. For finishing touches, I popped the background up on fun foam and added tiny baker's twine bows and a few crystal sequins.
