Simon Says Stamp Hey Bestie Release – Big Ampersand
Hey Bestie is the newest release from Simon Says Stamp! I was sent the Big Ampersand die, produced in conjunction with CZ Design) to make something fab with, and I think I managed it! Lookie:
This card had quite the evolution. I started out making a stenciled background with Distress Oxide inks, but the ampersand, which I cut from Simon’s Glimmery and Glitter card stocks, looked wrong on top of it. I still wanted to use the Drawn Hearts stencil from Simon Says Stamp, but I wanted more of an embossed texture.
So I grabbed some Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Pure Platinum. I’ve had this stuff FOR-EVER, and I just hadn’t gotten around to using it. I wanted something with a glimmery sheen to match the papers I cut the ampersand from. So I grabbed a plastic palette knife from Ranger and set my card stock up on my Wendy Vecchi MakeArt Stay-tion to make sure that the stencil and card stock would stay put while I scraped the mousse into the stencil. It was fun and weirdly satisfying. Afterwards, I scurried to the sink to wash the stencil immediately and let my card stock dry.
I love the results! I decided the card could use a friendly animal presence, and Picture Book Panda seemed the perfect choice. I wanted to stick with the white card base with pops of color from the ampersand and greeting pieces (stamped with Simon’s Big Greetings 1, heat embossed, and die cut with Simon’s Sentiment Label dies. I did NOT want a panda made with black and white, so I opted for using Slate Gray instead, which was just right! I chose Big Greetings because of the stamp “Love & Hugs.” I knew I could substitute the Big Ampersand die for the stamped ampersand in the greeting. You could also use some alphabet does and do “U & Me” or find a stamp that says “hugs & kisses” or anything where an ampersand could come in handy!
I can think of many uses for Big Ampersand! I love having the base and the shadow, which you can use separately or together. This card would be perfect for Valentine’s Day but also great for get well or any sort of support you need to give a loved one.
